Massive number of unexplained wakeups (on Thinkpad X60s and other systems)

I could observe that behaviour too. In my case, 
the ../acpi/processor/.../power counters went mad. A way to reproduce it 
was to put heavy multi threaded load on the machine for some minutes.

Removing pcmcia stuff (yenta and so on) seems to stop that from happening.
