Massive number of unexplained wakeups (on Thinkpad X60s and other systems)

Hi:

Has anyone got to the bottom of this problem with massive (tens of 
thousands) of unexplained wakeups, reported back in May 2007?

I have the same problem.  I'm running Fedora 8 on a T60p, and sometimes 
I get over 40 000 wakeups per second, with very few (tens) of them 
explained.  It can't be a problem with powertop as I also see high CPU 
utilization and high power drain, but there is no obvious cause - 
certainly no user process is doing a lot of work.

The guessing appears to be that this is either something to do with 
PCMCIA or IPW3945, but I don't know whether this is authoritative nor 
what to do for a fix.
