The powertop homepage stated you'd be interested in statistics. So here we go:
Linux Kubuntu Gutsy 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Thu Jan 31 23:33:13 UTC
2008 x86_64 GNU/Linux @ 30.7 watts constant:
PowerTOP 1.9 (C) 2007 Intel Corporation
Cn Time
C0 (Processor running) (100,0%)
C1 0,0ms ( 0,0%)
C2 0,0ms ( 0,0%)
Wakes per Second : 42327,1 Interval: 15,0s
25,7% ( 95,8) <interrupt> : extra timer interrupt
21,8% ( 81,5) mplayer : do_nanosleep (hrtimer_wakeup)
12,6% ( 47,1) konsole : schedule_timeout (process_timeout)
12,6% ( 46,9) <interrupt> : uhci_hcd:usb2, HDA Intel
11,0% ( 40,9) <interrupt> : ahci
9,4% ( 35,2) <interrupt> : uhci_hcd:usb4, bcm43xx
compared to Kubuntu Gutsy 2.6.24.2-vanilla @ 23.8(idle) - 30 watts.
C0 (Processor running) ( 0,7%)
C1 0,0ms ( 0,0%)
C2 54,7ms (99,3%)
P-States (Frequenzen)
Wakes per Second : 18,3 Interval: 15,0s
18,5% ( 4,0) <kernel module> : usb_hcd_poll_rh_status (rh_timer_func)
13,9% ( 3,0) <interrupt> : acpi
9,0% ( 1,9) Xorg : do_setitimer (it_real_fn)
6,5% ( 1,4) <interrupt> : ahci
(The C-State unfortunately is still only used after S3 and resume.)
So from 30.7 to 23.8 watts and from 40000 to ~ 20-30 wakes / second in idle.
If that isn't great success :)
More information on request.

Dennis
