Persistent X server wakeups

Sometimes, I run powertop and see:

Wakeups-from-idle per second : 29.7 interval: 15.0s
Top causes for wakeups:
   45.2% ( 15.9) Xorg : do_setitimer (it_real_fn)
   45.2% ( 15.9) Xorg : schedule_timeout (process_timeout)

I run Kubuntu Feisty on AMD64. I usually run konqueror, thunderbird,
firefox, akregator and knode. I'm not able to associate it with
starting or using any one of these applications.

The wakeups don't go away, even if I close all my applications, kill
kwm and
start twm, kill kicker (kde panel) and kdesktop, and run powertop from
xterm. Hell, they happen if I close the xterm, switch to a console
VT, and run powertop from there. But they do go away if I restart X.
I've checked for hidden clients with xlsclients and found nothing,
i.e. if I'm just running twm and xterm, only xterm is listed.

Both X.org entries always have the same number of wakeups.

I do have DRI enabled, but I don't use it very often. I'm just about
to switch to the VESA driver and see whether it ends up happening
again.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks, Alan
