Just for giggles you might want to try blacklisting the modules that 
seem to be causing the problem.  I discovered this works form me a 
couple of months back.  It also worked for at least 1 other person that 
was having the same problem a month ago.  Unloading the modules "after" 
the kernel has loaded them will not fix the problem.

cat /etc/modprobe.d/pcmcia
blacklist pcmcia
blacklist yenta_socket
