Hi,

I have applied your patch basically, but I've used the opportunity to 
also clean up some code in the process. I've also kept the 
suggestions; lots of people seem to value them a lot.
Thanks for your contribution!

I have one problem left; the color of the normal text seems to be 
darker than before.. any ncurses guru's out there with the magic 
combination to fix that?
