I have reduced my IBM X30 power usage to 9,3 W with 2.6.22-rc5-hrt1.
As I have started from about 16 W it is not very high now, but with
stock Debian 2.6.21 (from unstable) I have only 8,6 W. For me it's
better to not use HPET for unknown reason.

Enabling Laptop mode with "laptop_mode start force" saves about 3-4 W
when using only a text editor and latex. Only saving files and
generating PDFs wakes up disk and makes CPU to enter C0 and higher
P-state.

I also found that lowering brightness of screen lower power usage. It
be nice if powertop can suggest tweaking brightness.

And finally I found that XFCE4 battery plugin consumes a lot of power
making ACPI busy continuously.

In general I have doubled my battery work time :)
