extra timer interrupt | HPET

Hi,

I upgraded my kernel today (2.6.22-r2) in order to get lesser wakeups.
But somehow I don't manage to get the HPET working, though I have set all the 
necessary config parameters.

There is no option available in my bios - and neither the hpet patch from 
linuxpowertop.org nor the -hrt2 patch did enable the hpet.

Any suggestions?
As without the hpet the 'extra timer interrupt' causes 34 of 38 wakeups :/
Is there any other workaround available?
